The Xperia XZ2 Premium hasn’t even hit the shelves, but that hasn’t stopped Sony from commencing development of its successor, the Xperia XZ3 Premium.
Information included a User Agent Profile (UAProf), a specification used to capture details about wireless devices, suggests that Sony is working on a high-end smartphone that’s equipped a wide, high-resolution 18:9 screen (3840 x 1920).
It also states that it was tested running Android 9.0, otherwise known as Android P – the next major consumer build of Android.
While the listing doesn’t mention the rumoured Xperia XZ3 Premium by name, it does reference a model number – H8416 – that’s long been associated with the handset, adding fuel to the fire that development of the unit is well underway.
Something doesn’t quite add up, though. If this mysterious device is the successor to the Xperia XZ2 Premium, one would expect it to be a step up in every department, yet the UAProf states that it comes with a lower screen resolution.
With that in mind, we aren’t confident in saying that we’re looking at the Xperia XZ3 Premium – we’ll reserve that judgement until we hear something from the horse’s mouth. It’s also worth considering the fact it could be a different high-end phone.
